Free Pattern: Bottle Decoration

Make a nice decoration for your bottle of water. Use it as nice touch or for more practical reasons.

Crochet: Bottle Decoration

Everybody brings a bottle of water at the fitness center or at a field trip. Some of the bottles look very much alike, and occasionally it can be difficult to find the right one.

Here is a pattern for a bottle decoration, that makes your bottle unique.

About the Pattern

The pattern is a combination of two different slip stitch patterns, plus some rows of slip stitches.
It is great for using leftover yarn. You can easily adjust the pattern anyway you like. Read more about slip stitches here.

Note: The pattern creates a rib effect, but a rib that is stretched most of the time is not likely to be able to shrink again.

Materials
  • Yarn: less than 10 gr (0.4oz)
  • Hook: 4.5/5mm (US 7/H8, UK 7/6)
  • 2 stitch markers (SM1 and SM2)
Attaching a stitch marker to the last slip stitch
Stitch Marker. When you place a stitch marker, you can place it at the base of the loop on your hook (image).

Turning. Don't do a turning chain, but hook into the stitch right next to the hook - behind the stitch marker.

Abbreviations (US terms)

SS BLO = slip stitch in the back loop only
st/sts = stitch/stitches
** = Repeat the rest of the row - or until said

Crochet slip stitch pattern

Make slip stitches till you are happy with the length. It should be tight, when you stretch it around the bottle. Else it might slip off, when you hold it.

Do the last row, so your hook and the last loop is on the same side of the work as your loose yarn end (the one from the starting chain).

Finishing Off

Fold the ends together, so the side that faced you while doing the last row, is shown.

Remove the hook from the current loop. Insert the hook into the corner where your loose yarn end is. Hook into the last loop again and pull it through the corner loop.

Do slip stitches all the way. Use one loop from each side. For a more flat and invisible join, use the back loop of stitches of your last row. (image).

Joining ends of slip stitches

When the last slip stitch is done, cut the yarn and pull it all through the last loop. Sew in ends along the rib. Don't sew across the rib.

Enjoy! - And when the other members of your training course asks you to make a bottle decoration, make each of the decorations unique, so you can find your own bottle :)
